Letter from the Publisher
Josh Schimmels
In recent times, health care professionals at all levels in our region have been asked to do so much and have accomplished countless essential tasks while helping to pioneer innovative new technologies and treatment protocols. The leaders of this industry have had difficult and transformational decisions to make every day and we all owe them a debt of gratitude.
The importance of the leaders and teams who are running health care organizations and making key decisions to help improve our communities cannot be overstated. This section of the Los Angeles Business Journal is designed to honor the particularly outstanding leaders in health care for our region. These individuals, organizations and programs have made remarkable strides helping Los Angeles (and beyond) to provide outstanding levels of care and treatment while fighting to help us navigate through uncharted waters and beyond.
Included in this special section you are reading now are spotlights on the honorees we celebrated as part of our annual Health Care Leadership Symposium & Awards event on Wednesday, August 23rd at the Biltmore Los Angeles.
Before launching into the awards ceremony, the event brought together a diverse group of elite health industry insiders for a panel discussion about everything from providing to underserved populations to the biggest challenges the system is facing to the overall impact new protocols are having on Southern California, and much more.
The esteemed panel included insights from George Greene (president/CEO, Hospital Association of Southern California); Joya Henderson (chief nursing officer, Antelope Valley Medical Center); Precious Mayes (CEO and president, Pacifica Hospital of the Valley); Roger Sharma (president and CEO, Emanate Health); Joi Torrence-Hill (chief of operations, USC Norris Cancer Hospital); and Paul Viviano (president & CEO, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles).
During the award ceremony portion of the event, 14 inspirational honoree organizations and individuals were announced this year and are described in this section. We applaud each of them, as well as the impactful collection of finalists, also described in these pages. Congratulations – and thank you – to all the great health care leaders in Los Angeles who play such integral roles in our lives and the lives of our families, friends and coworkers.
