Excellence in Healthcare is Rooted in Compassion, Respect and Inclusion

The increasing diversity of our nation brings opportunities and challenges for healthcare providers and healthcare systems to not only create and deliver culturally competent services but also to exercise social responsibility and address disparity gaps that greatly impact the communities they serve. PIH Health strives to improve access to care for all our patients while providing culturally competent care. We’re also deepening our efforts to get at the heart of inequities by increasing diversity in our workforces, creating economic opportunities for our communities, and strengthening local partnerships that help to elevate and empower the populations we serve.

PROVIDING EQUITABLE CARE FOR PATIENTS

As a nonprofit healthcare delivery system, PIH Health is dedicated to ensuring equitable access to high-quality, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care for all our patients. Cultural competence is defined as the ability of providers and organizations to effectively deliver healthcare services that meet the social, cultural, and linguistic needs of patients. PIH Health provides relevant training on cultural competence and cross-cultural issues to all our employees and volunteers and creates policies that reduce administrative and linguistic barriers to patient care. We’re enhancing the knowledge and skills of our staff and volunteers to make sure that we are providing care that is compassionate and culturally appropriate for each patient. PIH Health is also committed to improving the Los Angeles community’s access to care, and further expanding and developing PIH Health programs and services to better meet the healthcare needs of these ever-changing populations. Some of these developments include the opening of a new urgent care facility in the downtown LA/Westlake area; additional access to outpatient imaging services, vital infrastructure upgrades and technological updates to the recently acquired PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital; increased access to PIH Health’s comprehensive home health services; and a growing network of sought-after specialty physicians.

FOSTERING A DIVERSE, INCLUSIVE WORKPLACE FOR OUR COLLEAGUES

We know that having a diverse and inclusive workforce makes PIH Health a better place to receive health care, a better partner in the areas we serve, and a better place to work. PIH Health fosters an inclusive work environment focused on a sense of belonging and well-being for all our employees and volunteers. Through workplace programs, education, diverse talent acquisition, engagement, and development, we are all working together to build a highly inclusive and engaged workplace, where everyone has an equal opportunity to reach their full potential and use their diverse perspectives to support PIH Health’s mission.

ENGAGING WITH AND INCREASING OUR INVESTMENT IN DIVERSE BUSINESSES

PIH Health is committed to expanding partnerships with a diverse range of businesses, including those owned and operated by people of color, women, veterans, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and members of socially and economically disadvantaged groups.

Most recently, the first Vendor Diversity Fair was held at PIH Health, in collaboration with PIH Health’s Enterprise Supply Chain, Hospital Association of Southern California (HASC), and Communities Lifting Communities (CLC), an initiative of the Hospital Association of Southern California, giving diverse vendors an opportunity to meet directly with purchasing agents, share their business plan/offerings, register for diverse vendor databases, engage with the broader South-ern California Hospital networks, and make quality connections.

By supporting supplier diversity initiatives, PIH Health leverages its buying power to generate economic opportunity for businesses in Los Angeles and beyond to benefit and elevate the disadvantaged and underrepresented in our communities.

CULTIVATING AND SUSTAINING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Every three years we produce a Community Health Needs Assessment to deepen our understanding of the populations that surround our three hospitals. By addressing social determinants of health, chronic disease, and leading causes of death, these reports help identify significant health needs in our primary service areas, serve as the basis for our community health improvement efforts, and guide our strategic partnerships. Strengthening and enriching our partnerships, PIH Health has continued to invest in and support local organizations and initiatives that service and help to empower our surrounding communities and our resources have helped to address rising rates of housing and food insecurity as well as youth mental health needs. PIH Health is also actively working to get public policies in place at the local, state, and federal levels that help to reduce disparities and improve health outcomes for people in California and throughout the US. PIH Health is committed to creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for our patients, employees, and communities while advancing PIH Health’s mission to provide safe, high-quality healthcare for all.
