The Los Angeles Business Journal is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Senior Editor to join our award-winning team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of how to edit features and news articles on deadline. Experience in journalism and creating content for both print and digital platforms is essential. The candidate should also have a solid understanding of the people, companies, industries and trends that are shaping the business landscape of Los Angeles.

• Work closely with other members of the senior editorial team to develop content that elevates the Business Journal’s print and digital properties.
• Help maintain the Business Journal’s editorial voice and vision.
• Provide guidance for a diverse team of staff and freelance reporters as they deliver breaking news, features and special reports.
• Develop and manage story ideas from concept to completion, often on tight deadlines.
• Edit stories, check facts, write headlines, and help reporters coordinate photo assignments or compile photo assets.
• While the focus of this role is on editing, the candidate will have the opportunity to contribute written stories to the print and digital products.

In addition to increasing business with established accounts within an existing book of business, they must be eager to meet with prospective clients and agencies in order to close new business. This position works with some of the most sophisticated financial institutions in the country.

The Los Angeles Business Journal is seeking a talented and versatile Graphic Designer/Production Artist to join our graphics team. In this role, the successful candidate will work with the editorial, events and sales teams on various projects including page design, infographics, social media campaigns, event signage and marketing materials, with a keen eye for detail, strong typography and production skills, and a love of clean, functional design solutions. Applicants with prior experience at a weekly or daily print publication are preferred.

Creative Role & Responsibilities:
Key print/digital responsibilities

• Page layout, design and print production for editorial features, columns and special reports for the weekly LABJ issue and its bi-weekly sister publication, the San Fernando Business Journal
• Retouch and color correct photos for both print and digital usage
• Assist in upload, online proofing and archiving of publications and associated assets
• Update website as needed

Key Events/Marketing responsibilities

• Take the design lead for social media campaigns to increase audience engagement for upcoming events and initiatives
• Work directly with the creative director and events director to ensure accurate execution of event and promotional materials
• Execute design for marketing campaigns across all social and digital channels.
• Develop a variety of digital and print assets including web banners, social media campaigns, one-sheets, presentations, and invites.
• Collaborate with sales team to update marketing collateral

The Los Angeles Business Journal is seeking an organized and motivated Marketing & Outreach Coordinator. In this role, the candidate will establish and maintain relationships with Los Angeles-based organizations across all industries for event-based outreach. This individual will also execute email marketing campaigns for subscribers of the Los Angeles Business Journal.

Role & Responsibilities:
• Research and recruit Los Angeles-based organizations to submit nominations for award-based events via personal emails and phone calls
• Organize and maintain all event contact spreadsheets; create follow up strategy
• Create email marketing campaigns for events & sales departments while maintaining email calendar
• Track and analyze rates of engagement for all email marketing campaigns monthly
• Provide administrative duties for Event Marketing Director and Event Marketing Manager
• Attend Business Journal virtual events (and in-person events once available) to assist with registration and event setup
• When in-person events return, follow up with event nomination leads for event ticket sales

Qualifications & Skills:
• Professional degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the flexibility to work on both team-based projects as well as independent projects

The Los Angeles Business Journal, the leading source of news and information for the Los Angeles business community, is seeking enterprising and energetic reporters for our print and digital properties.
The person in each role will report to the Editor and will provide coverage with context. Reporters are ideally self-driven, deadline-and detail-oriented people, and enthusiastic about print and digital media.
We are a weekly print publication with a 40-year history of covering the dynamic business community in L.A. County. The organization publishes content from the print edition as well as additional original content online, in daily e-newsletters and on social media.

• Minimum of two years’ experience covering business at a print or digital outlet, including finance stories.
• Ability to deliver quality content and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong grasp of the Los Angeles business market.
• Experience covering specific beats is a plus.
• Familiarity with AP style.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably with a focus on journalism or communications.
