Bellco Capital
Arie Belldegrun – an Israeli-born surgeon, scientist and entrepreneur – founded and built several biotech companies, including Cougar Biotechnology, Agensys, Allogene Therapeutics and Kite Pharma. The latter was sold to Gilead Sciences in 2017 for $11.9 billion. Belldegrun used the proceeds from these sales to establish and fund Century City-based Bellco Capital, which serves as a hub for life sciences ventures. Last year, his Vida Ventures fund had four major exits, including the $3.05 billion acquisition of portfolio company Halda Therapeutics by pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. Belldegrun is one of the co-founders of the California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, now taking shape as part of a UCLA research center at the former Westside Pavilion mall.
