Sylmar-based construction contractor Tutor Perini Corp. recently announced a trio of contract awards that combined to top $800 million.
By far the largest contract is $652 million to underground power lines at a U.S. Navy base in Guam, a U.S. territory in the Western Pacific. Next, the firm landed a $114 million project to build an academic building on the University of Mississippi campus in Oxford, commonly known as “Ole Miss.”
Rounding out this trio of contracts is a $48 million award to build electrical and other infrastructure for a data center in the Houston area. The client company was not identified.
Guam contract
The power infrastructure contract for the Guam Naval base is part of a $15 billion, eight-year infrastructure upgrade master contract put forward by the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command, Pacific division, for work on Navy facilities throughout the Western Pacific region.
The joint venture of Tutor Perini and its Guam-based subsidiary Black Construction was one of eight teams selected to the overall roster for this master contract. The Tutor Perini/Black Construction team then won a bid for this specific contract for the Guam Navy base.
The work will include the construction of below-ground concrete duct banks and the replacement of existing above-ground wires with underground wires going through the duct banks. The aim is to improve the electrical system’s resiliency and reliability. Construction work should start next year and wrap up by mid-2031.
Ole Miss contract
For the University of Mississippi, Tutor Perini subsidiary Roy Anderson Corp. of Gulfport, Mississippi, will build a 110,000-square-foot academic facility that will be the new home of the university’s Patterson School of Accountancy.
The project includes modern classrooms, auditoriums, collaborative learning spaces, faculty and administrative offices, and student support areas.
