Chief Executive
Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital/MLK Community Healthcare
Elaine Batchlor was instrumental in opening Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital in Willowbrook in 2015, eight years after its predecessor hospital closed amid controversies and poor care outcomes. Since then, she has served as its first chief executive. The nonprofit serves 1.3 million residents in South Los Angeles. MLK Community Healthcare includes the hospital, the MLK Community Medical Group, community health programs, and a fundraising foundation. In February, the hospital launched an advisory council to guide further deployment of care programs in underserved South Los Angeles communities. Batchlor previously served as the chief medical officer of L.A. Care Health Plan, a public health plan covering underserved residents of Los Angeles County.
