THE MONEY: Ressler is the co-founder and executive chair of Century City-based asset manager Ares Management Corp. Ares has not only survived the market turmoil; it has thrived in it. The firm’s stock closed at $98.21 a share on Aug. 22, a 33% increase from the same date last year. Ressler owns a major stake in the firm, which had $4.2 billion in assets under management as of June 30. Perhaps spurred by his 50 percent ownership in the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club, Ressler has recently made commitments to residential and retail projects in downtown Atlanta.



THE BUZZ: Prior to co-founding Ares Management Corp. in 1997, Ressler co-founded asset-management giant Apollo Global Management Inc. The billionaire is invested in several major sports teams; he is a minority owner of the Milwaukee Brewers and principal owner and chair of the Atlanta Hawks. He is active in the Los Angeles nonprofit space and sits on the board of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
