THE LATEST: Iger led Walt Disney Co.’s recent $71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s film and entertainment assets, including networks National Geographic, FX and Star TV, and stakes in Sky, Endemol Shine Group and Hulu. The company also announced details of the upcoming Disney Plus streaming service, which will offer original feature films, documentaries, episodic and unscripted series, and short-form content.

BACKGROUND: Iger drew a $66 million salary for 2018, making him the second highest paid media executive in the country. A longtime entertainment executive, Iger was named Disney CEO in 2005. During his tenure as chairman, Disney has acquired Pixar, Marvel Entertainment and Lucasfilm. Iger began his career at ABC in 1974, rising through the ranks at Capital Cities/ABC, which was acquired by Disney in 1996.

WORTH NOTING: Iger is married to Willow Bay, dean of the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, and a veteran television journalist, digital news editor and author.
