Listen up, investors – Pepperdine University’s Graziadio Business School has selected its latest Most Fundable Companies, and two hail from right in the Malibu institution’s backyard.
Burbank-based Cerebrum Sensor Technologies Inc. and Cheviot Hills-based The Crease Beast Inc. were among the 14 selected Most Fundable Companies this year, Graziadio’s ninth year holding the contest. Those winners were among more than 2,100 startups from all 50 states that competed.
Craig Everett – executive director of the Most Fundable Companies program and the Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project — noted that applicants are evaluated against fundamentals similar to those used by professional investors. He added that this year’s winners have “demonstrated the strength of their business models, leadership teams and potential traction for long-term growth.”
Cerebrum Sensor Technologies designs tire sensor hardware and software that detect and transmit advanced data on tires and the wheels they’re mounted on. The analytics can be used both by vehicle operators to learn more about their tires’ conditions and by manufacturers to identify and improve upon design issues.
The Crease Beast produces memory foam inserts for shoes that are designed to reduce the effects of creasing in the toe portions – an important detail for designer sneakers especially, but also applicable to dress shoes and boots. The inserts are significantly more affordable than contemporary options.

Downtown-based Anschutz Entertainment Group last week doled out $400,000 in grants to 22 nonprofits in the education, arts and health spaces. The funding will support these organizations – which face mounting needs in their communities, as highlighted in our special report on philanthropy last week – in their missions.
“Nonprofits are often the first to respond when communities face challenges, and today many organizations are being asked to do more than ever before,” said Martha Saucedo, chief external affairs officer for AEG.
