THE LATEST: Maltzan’s firm designed One Santa Fe, the 438-unit mixed-use apartment complex in downtown’s Arts District as well as the recently opened Crest Apartments, a Van Nuys complex that features support services and 60 studio apartments for the homeless. MMA also designed Audrey, the restaurant in the Hammer Museum in Westwood, which opened in February. The firm’s plan to transform the ArtCenter College of Design has been approved by Pasadena.
BACKGROUND: Maltzan holds degrees in architecture and fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Master of Architecture from Harvard University. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Architecture and a recipient of the American Academy of Arts and Letters Architecture Award.
WORTH NOTING: Maltzan, who founded MMA in 1995, teaches and lectures at architecture schools around the world.
