The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra has received its largest-ever gift of $1.5 million from philanthropists Carol and Warner Henry.

The gift endows the principal oboe chair, to be titled “The Allan Vogel Chair, endowed by the Henry Family.” The chair is named in honor of Vogel, who served as the orchestra’s principal oboe until his retirement in June 2016.

The gift also will help support the orchestra’s Baroque Conversations series and its Baroque repertoire. The Henrys have been among the orchestra’s top donors since the early 1970s and have contributed more than $3 million in support of the organization.

“Chamber music stirs very deep passions,” Warner Henry said in a statement. “We also have a very deep love for Baroque music. … Nobody exemplified the vitality and resonance of Baroque music better than our friend Allan Vogel.”

Warner Henry has served as board chairman and chief executive of El Segundo building envelope, roofing and waterproofing systems maker Henry Co. since 1974. Carol Warner has served on numerous community boards and has been a Los Angeles Opera board member since 1985.
