Richard Gelfond has served as chief executive of IMAX Corp. since 2009. He has been with the company since 1993, helping transform it from a specialty large-format filmmaker into a global premium theatrical network spanning 1,864 screens across 91 countries. Under his leadership, IMAX has become a key platform for blockbuster releases, capturing 20 percent of the opening-weekend box-office gross last year – including Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners,” “F1: The Movie” and “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” In 2025, the company surpassed $1.2 billion at the global box office – a company record – and reported a 139% surge in second-quarter profits, citing strong performances from those three films.
