Owner
The Geffen Film Co.
David Geffen is one of the most consequential figures in entertainment. He founded Asylum Records in 1971, Geffen Records in 1980, and co-founded DreamWorks SKG with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg in 1994. His production company, Geffen Film Co., produced enduring titles including “Risky Business,” “Little Shop of Horrors” and “Beetlejuice” — the last of which saw the Geffen company brand revived for Tim Burton’s 2024 sequel, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” In November 2025, Bloomberg reported that Geffen had amassed a roughly $686 million stake in Warner Bros. Discovery, positioning him as a significant beneficiary of the company’s widely anticipated sale. Geffen has donated more than $450 million to the University of California, Los Angeles, where the medical school bears his name.
