Berenecea Eanes became Cal State L.A.’s ninth president in January 2024 – the first woman to lead the institution in its 77-year history. A nationally recognized scholar of social work with degrees from Dillard University, Boston University and Clark Atlanta University, she arrived from York College of the City University of New York, where she oversaw a $91 million budget and strategic leadership for more than 1,100 faculty and staff. In February, Eanes was named presidential sponsor of the ACE Women’s Network of Southern California while steering Cal State L.A.’s designation as an anchor institution for urban community transformation.
