Chief Executive, J. Paul Getty Trust
THE LATEST: The Getty Research Institute in April announced the acquisition of the archives of artist Claes Oldenburg and his collaborator and wife, Coosje van Bruggen. In March, the J. Paul Getty Trust provided a $5 million endowment to Britain’s Courtauld Institute of Art for a graduate program in wall-painting conservation. And last year, the Getty Institute launched the African American Art History Initiative, focused on artists connected to the African Diaspora. The program has a $5 million budget, which will be used to identify research projects and acquire artwork.
BACKGROUND: Cuno has been chief executive of the Getty Trust since 2011. Previously he was president and Eloise W. Martin Director of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has worked as a director at the Courtauld Institute of Art at the University of London, the Harvard University Art Museums, and the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College. J. Paul Getty Trust, founded in 1948 by businessman and art collector J. Paul Getty, operates the Getty Conservation Institute, the Getty Foundation, the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Getty Research Institute.
WORTH NOTING: Cuno has taught art history and architecture at Harvard and Vassar College.
