LA500 2025: Thomas Rosenbaum

Rosenbaum is the ninth president of the California Institute of Technology. Rosenbaum has worked with the likes of Bell Laboratories (which has received several Nobel Prizes in physics), the IBM Watson Research Center at International Business Machines Corp. as a physicist and expert in quantum mechanics. He was a vice president at the University of Chicago, overseeing research and the Argonne National Laboratory. He funded research opportunities and established several graduate fellowships with Katherine Faber, his wife and materials scientist. Among their endeavors is a $100,000 graduate research fellowship they started at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering in 2014.
