Los Angeles Business Journal Publisher Anna Magzanyan has named seasoned journalist and media executive Scott Robson as editor to bolster the paper’s newsroom operations. He will lead the Business Journal’s newsgathering efforts and help develop fresh connections with readers.
“I’m honored to be joining the Los Angeles Business Journal, and I’m looking forward to continuing the organization’s rich history of quality journalism,” Robson said. “This is an incredibly exciting time to be covering business in L.A., which is home to some of the world’s smartest people and most innovative companies. We’ll make sure that the Business Journal reflects the energy of this unique community, tells the stories that matter and helps drive the conversation.”
Robson has an extensive background leading teams across print and digital platforms. He has served as editor-in-chief of Yahoo Entertainment and AOL’s Moviefone, and led The Envelope for the Los Angeles Times. He also served as a content executive at MTV and Nielsen. Immediately prior to his appointment at the Business Journal, Robson was principal at Jermaine Media, a consulting company specializing in digital strategy and content creation.
Magzanyan said Robson would move the Business Journal’s coverage forward, and his digital media expertise would help deliver business news via multiple channels.
“Scott’s experience is unrivaled. He is the perfect choice to lead our editorial team and serve the Los Angeles community with timely, compelling and accurate business news through our successful print product,” she said. “His extensive digital background will also help the Los Angeles Business Journal enhance our digital products, allowing us to deliver content on multiple platforms.”
The Business Journal also hired Erica E. Phillips as managing editor. She comes to the paper from the Los Angeles bureau of the Wall Street Journal where she covered shipping, logistics and the global supply chain.
Henry Meier, who has served as the Business Journal’s interim editor since November, moves into the newly created role of deputy editor.
