THE MONEY:
Anthony Pritzker is one of 11 heirs to the Chicago-based Pritzker family fortune, which includes the Hyatt hotel chain. He oversees the family-funded Pritzker Group’s private equity and venture capital businesses. The firm’s VC investment is mainly in tech-focused consumer and enterprise startups outside of traditional tech hubs. Although Hyatt’s share price has suffered from Covid-19’s effect on the hotel industry, Pritzker’s wealth increased this year thanks to Pritzker Group investments and appreciation of his 2007 inheritance.
THE BUZZ:
Pritzker is a former Los Angeles County Museum of Art trustee and sits on the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation’s board and on Heal the Bay’s advisory board. He is also co-founder and managing partner of the Pritzker Group and co-founder of the nonprofit Anthony and Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation. Over the past 10 years, the foundation has donated more than $100 million in Los Angeles County alone, including $14 million in 2019. Pritzker and his wife, Jeanne, continued their longtime support of UCLA by announcing in January a $30 million gift to the university to support the renovation of the Psychology Tower building on school’s Westwood campus.
