What to Watch This Weekend

A look at the plots of this weekend’s new movie releases from a business perspective.

THE BOSS – Life is good for a rich investment guru until she’s busted for insider trading and sent to prison. When she gets out, all of her money and friends are gone. But her business smarts remain intact and she sets out to launch a brownie empire from her new headquarters in a cramped apartment. Melissa McCarthy looks to continue her run of box-offices successes as the star and co-writer of this comedy about a humbled executive trying to get back to the top.

HARDCORE HENRY – An evil Russian mob boss finds his criminal empire threatened by a robotically enhanced mercenary on a mission to create mayhem. The intense action scenes are filmed entirely from the perspective of the titular hero in an attempt to replicate first-person shooter video games in a revolutionary movie format.

DEMOLITION – A Wall Street investment banker struggles to focus after returning to work following his wife’s death. He finds the only way to carry on is by unloading his emotions into a series of complaint letters to the makers of the vending machine at the hospital where his wife died. Although he only wanted a refund for some peanut M&Ms, which the machine failed to dispense, he ends up forming a connection with the firm’s customer service representative who is moved by his situation. Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts star.
