In 2000, Nina Huerta moved to Los Angeles to pursue her legal education at the University of Southern California and was the first in her immediate family to pursue law. Huerta joined Locke Lord as a first-year associate and was elected to partnership in January 2012. She was appointed office managing partner for Los Angeles in June 2016 and became one of the first Latinas to serve in this role for any major law firm. Huerta also serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. Huerta focuses her practice on defending companies in complex and class action litigation, typically involving labor and employment claims. She has defended employers in litigation involving wage and hour claims brought under the Fair Labor Standards Act, The California Labor Code and the Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Orders, alleged worker misclassification, claims of discrimination and harassment and alleged violations of family and medical leave laws.
