Pegasus Foods, a Los Angeles supplier for restaurants including Chili’s, Panda Express and Cinnabon, is expanding into Texas.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Pegasus chief executive Jim Zaferis announced in a press conference late Monday that the company would build a $10 million unit in the Dallas suburb of Rockwall that would include an 80,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and create about 300 jobs.
Zaferis said he was inviting many of his California-based employees to relocate to Texas and cited that state’s low taxes, right to work laws and business friendly climate as appealing factors.
Gov. Greg Abbot, R-Texas, who was by Zaferis’ side during the conference, noted that attracting companies like Pegasus would expand diversity in the Texas economy so that it is insulated from the oscillations of the oil and gas industry, which have long driven the state’s prosperity and its financial woes.
