Arts District Residential Development Breaks Ground

A yet-to-be-named residential development in the Arts District, touted as one of the biggest in downtown Los Angeles, will break ground Tuesday.

Urbanize LA reported Monday that Pasadena developer Legendary Developments and Fairfield Residential Company of San Diego are slated to officially begin construction on the complex at 950 E. Third Street.

The $215 million effort, which is being designed by Berkeley’s Kava Massih Architects, will include a public walkway that connects Third Street with Traction Avenue.

The block of five- to six-story buildings, scheduled for completion in mid-2018, will occupy a six-acre site next to the Southern California Institute of Architecture and include 472 residential units along with 22,000 square feet of retail.

The announcement of the Arts District project comes on the heels of the soft opening of the 700-apartment Eighth & Grand residential complex last week, billed as the largest housing project to open in downtown.
