Cargo volume at the Port of Los Angeles slipped in October and Long Beach traffic was up in October compared with last year, the two ports announced Friday.
Cargo volume at the Port of Los Angeles dropped 4.8 percent compared with the same month last year. About 684,000 containers moved through the port, the first month since July that number was lower than 700,000. Imports declined 5.1 percent and exports were down 5.7 percent.
Long Beach traffic increased 8.7 percent in October compared with the same period a year earlier. But the increase was less than it was in previous months, 14.7 percent in September and 16 percent in August. About 577,000 containers moved through the Port of Long Beach.
Still, the Port of Long Beach said it has been a strong “peak season” this year. From August through October, imports were up 14 percent compared with the same period last year.
