Cargo volume at the Port of Los Angeles increased 11 percent in December over the year earlier, while the Port of Long Beach saw a less significant increase of 4 percent.
More than 650,000 containers moved through the Port of Los Angeles in December. Imports were up 8.6 percent, and exports jumped nearly 17 percent, compared to the same period a year ago.
The Port of Long Beach imports dipped 1.4 percent, but exports rose 9.3 percent, compared to December last year.
Overall, Long Beach had an impressive year, 11.3 percent increase in cargo volume, compared to 2012. It was the port’s third-busiest year, behind activity in 2006 and 2007.
Full-year traffic at the Port the Los Angeles declined 2.6 percent in the past year, compared to 2012.
