Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. on Tuesday said that launched a new company called LeighFisher Inc. to better tap the management and strategy consultancy market.

The Pasadena engineering services giant said that LeighFisher is a wholly owned subsidiary that will operate globally and provides management, strategy and planning advisory services initially to the transportation sector. The company said it expects to expand to serving other industries.

“The creation of LeighFisher enables us to drive higher levels of growth in our global consulting business and compete more broadly and effectively across that market.” Chief Executive Officer Craig Martin said in a statement.

Shares closed up 64 cents, or nearly 2 percent, to $36.07 on the New York Stock Exchange.
