Spotify, Universal Music Agreement Offers Album First Dibs to Subscribers
Music streaming service Spotify and Universal Music Group announced a multiyear global license agreement Tuesday that will allow Universal artists the option to release new albums to premium subscribers for two weeks before public distribution, reports the Business Journal. These paid subscribers will get a first look at the albums while the singles remain available to other listeners who use the free service.
FreedomPop Launches Plan for Small Businesses
FreedomPop announced Tuesday that it had launched a free phone service for small businesses, according to a press release. Its plan offers unlimited talk and text, plus 2 gigabits of shared data for the first two users on the plan; businesses with more robust data needs can purchase more data starting at $10 per gigabit.
Pluto TV Taps Former E! Exec Robert Magdlen as Chief Programming Officer
Online streaming television service PlutoTV announced on Tuesday that it hired former E! channel’s vice president of program strategy and acquisitions, Robert Magdlen, as its chief programming officer, reports Variety. At NBCUniversal’s E! Magdlen oversaw programming strategies behind scripted series “The Royals,” reality TV series “Total Divas,” as well as nightly shows “The Soup,” and “Fashion Police.”
