L.A. Seed Funding Falls Sharply in First Quarter
While venture capital investment in L.A. startups rose slightly in the first quarter of 2017, seed-stage investments went in the other direction, reports the Business Journal. Seed funding fell 43.8 percent to $51.6 million in the first quarter compared to the first quarter in 2016, according to a report by accelerator Amplify.LA of Venice.

Medical apparel retailer Jaanuu raised $5 million from investors, including former executives from ecommerce women’s clothier Nasty Gal Inc. and Nordstrom.com, reports the Business Journal. The company sells fashionable scrubs for medical professionals through its website.
Nasty Gal Founder Sophia Amoruso’s Dramatic Biopic Releases Friday
The dramatic portrayal of Sophia Amoruso’s rise on eBay and founding of Nasty Gal is set to be released on Netflix on Friday, reports The New York Times. The show “GIRLBOSS” is based on Amoruso’s best-selling book “#GIRLBOSS.”
