J2 Global Communications Inc., which provides online communications and fax services, said that it is acquiring an Irish online data backup service as well as a virtual PBX business based in the United Kingdom.
The Los Angeles company, which specializes in “cloud-based” business services over the Internet, said both acquisitions will help extend its customer base in Europe. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Dublin-based Data Haven Limited provides online data backup services for businesses, primarily in Ireland. The virtual private-branch telephone exchange business is part of Kingston, U.K.-based Buzz Networks Limited, a provider of voice services.
The Data Haven deal “follows our 2010 acquisition of online data backup provider KeepItSafe and underscores our belief that online data backup services belong within the wide array of cloud-based services for businesses that j2 Global offers,” Chief Executive Hemi Zucker said in a statement. “The Buzz Networks acquisition builds our base of eReceptionist virtual PBX customers in the U.K. and extends our position as a leading provider of these services in Europe.”
Shares of j2 were down 32 cents, or 1 percent, to $28.59 in midday trading on the Nasdaq.
