Vobecky Enterprises Focuses on Relationships
Vobecky

Bianca Vobecky founded her construction services company, Vobecky Enterprises Inc., in 2006.

The company grew 398% from 2020 to last year, making it No. 6 on the Business Journal’s list of Fastest Growing Private Companies.

Vobecky achieved that growth at the Glendora firm, she said, through a focus on customer service.

“I made it my goal to get to know each customer and attend events where I know they will be to build the relationships,” Vobecky said.

Why has your company grown so quickly?

Since founding Vobecky Enterprises in 2006, my efforts have been the building of meaningful professional relationships with a focus on customer service.

Great customer service means loyal customers who want to see you succeed. People do business with people they like, they know, and trust. I made it my goal to get to know each customer and attend events where I know they will be to build the relationships.

What are your particular challenges of fast growth? Recruiting enough skilled people? The drive to expand supply chains? Acquiring enough space for your expanding needs?

Like most small businesses, finding good employees has been a struggle, particularly in the early days when we couldn’t afford to pay our employees competitive rates. With our growth we are now able to offer competitive salaries, we’ve prioritized offering employee’s health benefits and a retirement plan to retain good talent.  Having good and reliable staff allows me to visit customers, our projects, our job sites and stay involved in the business development and community events.

Growing companies often relocate out of California. Do you think that trend will continue? Are you tempted to do so?

Most of my customers and work community are in California so I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. (The) cost of living and running a business is lower in other states, however, California offers many opportunities and perks that are priceless.

There’s been a long-standing prediction of a recession. Do you believe one is coming soon? If so, what have you done to prepare for it? How do you project it will affect you?

Since we started the company in 2006, we have experienced a few recessions and even a worldwide pandemic. From the beginning I made sure that our company is diversified in the services that we offer. Vobecky Enterprises provides construction and construction related services such as tenant improvement, construction management, project staffing, supplier of construction/safety materials and nationwide trucking. Our customer bases are also diversified, we work with the military, federal government agencies, state agencies, public and private utility companies and many large firms as prime and subcontractors so recession or not some of our services are always needed.

If you could go back in time, knowing what you know now, what would you do differently at your company?

I would have started the company years earlier and teamed with more larger firms to grow the company.  I have a bachelor’s degree of Science in Business Management, in addition, I also attained the California Contractor’s License (B – General & C-21 Demolition). If I could do it over, I also would have pursued the Engineering Contractors “A” license as well, to open more contract opportunities to our firm.

What’s the most important piece of advice you’d offer to another leader whose company is experiencing fast growth?

Surround yourself with well qualified, forward-looking and experience employees, subcontractors and teaming partners.
