Founder and Co-chair, Oaktree Capital Management
Since its founding in 1995, Oaktree Capital Management has specialized
in alternative investments and as of March had $172 billion
in assets under management, making it the second largest company
on the Business Journal’s list of private equity firms in Los Angeles.
Marks is popular in the business press, and his newsletters are widely
read by Wall Street’s professional investors. For 10 years before the
founding of Oaktree, Marks led the teams at the TCW Group that were
responsible for investments in distressed debt, high-yield bonds and
convertible securities. Earlier, he was with Citicorp Investment Management
for 16 years, where from 1978 to 1985 he was in charge of
convertible and high-yield securities.
