LA500 2022: Edythe Broad

Co-Founder, The Broad Foundations

Edythe Broad and her husband, Eli Broad, who died in April 2021, have been giants in L.A.’s philanthropic world, donating an estimated $4 billion. The legacy of giving will live on through Edythe Broad, whom the foundation has described as the quiet force behind ́the couple’s generosity. Edythe is the namesake of the Edye, a 100-seat black box theater by the Broad Stage at Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center. The Foundation, established in 1999 with an endowment that has exceeded $2 billion — provided funding to institutions forced to temporarily close during the pandemic, including the Broad Center, The Broad museum and the Broad Stage.
