Founder and CEO: Lynnette Astaire
Business: Superfood School is an educational platform and cooking school that teaches healthier eating through a plant-based diet. About 80% of the company’s customers are corporate clients, such as MAC Cosmetics, Suja Organic and WeWork Cos. Inc.
The rest of Superfood School’s customers are individuals and social clubs who sign up for classes, like an online yoga brunch event in January held in partnership with Athleta, where attendees received a menu and grocery list in advance of an interactive livestream and cooked under Astaire’s guidance. Now 37, Astaire developed an entrepreneurial mindset at an early age. She started her first business at 11 years old when she realized the meals her school served weren’t nutritious. That inspired her to start experimenting in the kitchen, and she wound up selling Rice Krispies Treats to classmates. The positive feedback she received inspired her to consider a career as a chef.
In 2021, Astaire, who relies on freelancers now, is aiming to build a full-time team. Her ultimate goal is to create a community among customers who share what they have learned about plant-based cooking with each other.
Quote: “The food that is important for us to eat, nobody really knows the background of it, so I created Superfood School to get information out to people and fill in the blanks that we don’t always get from our parents or the culture of foods that has been passed down. We help people get more plants on their plate no matter what their diet is.”
Tips for other entrepreneurs: Find something you love and are passionate about, and everything will fall into place on a personal and business level.
