The search for veteran commercial real estate broker Ed Rosenthal, who was reported missing after his car was found at the Black Rock campground in Joshua Tree National Park, continued Tuesday night.
Jason Megowan, a dispatcher with the Federal Interagency Communications Center in San Bernardino, said that National Park Service search teams are canvassing the northern section of the park after finding footprints and clothing believed to be Rosenthal’s. The search effort is being conducted on foot and by helicopter.
“They are moving into different areas where there is a high probability that he might be,” Megowan said.
Rosenthal’s disappearance, reported to authorities on Sunday, has raised concerns in the Los Angeles real estate community given the extreme triple digit temperatures in the desert. Megowan said that temperatures at the park surpassed 105 degrees on Tuesday. Rosenthal, 64, told colleagues he was going to Palm Springs to celebrate two recent deals he had brokered. He is said to have set out on a hike on Friday.
Rosenthal, who operates New Downtown Brokerage, had recently brokered the sale of Clifton’s Cafeteria and several properties connected to the downtown Eastern Columbia condo building.
Rosenthal is known as the poet-broker of downtown. He’s penned poems on the community for years, with topics ranging from historic buildings to business and civic personalities.
