THE BUZZ: Told the Business Journal he had made an offer to purchase the Los Angeles Times at the request of former Tribune Publishing Co. Chairman Eddy Hartenstein. Offer ultimately rebuffed. Long-awaited Broad museum finally opened in fall. Large crowds have admired contemporary artwork from the Broad Art Foundation and his personal collection by artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Cindy Sherman. The foundation’s fight with German architectural firm Seele Inc. over delays in completing the Bunker Hill institution’s latticework shell is ongoing; Seele claims it is owed nearly $7 million for the work. Other civic pursuits included floating $490 million plan to increase number of charter schools in Los Angeles, which was opposed by the Los Angeles Unified School District board. The octogenarian announced he’s donating personal papers documenting his civic, business, and philanthropic endeavors to UCLA’s library in installments.
