David Kaplan

Director, Partner, Co-Head of Private Equity, Ares Management

David Kaplan is a co-founder of Ares Management, as well as a director and partner of Ares Management GP, Ares’ general partner. He is co-head of Ares’ private equity group and a member of the management committee. Kaplan joined Ares in 2003 from Shelter Capital Partners, where he was a senior principal. From 1991 through 2000, Kaplan was a senior partner at Apollo Management. Before that, Kaplan was a member of the investment banking department at Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corp. He serves as chairman of the parent entities of Neiman Marcus Group Inc. and Smart & Final Inc.
