At Star Shoes, a trendy Hollywood shoe retailer, you can get a pair of sling-back sandals or order a Singapore sling.

The 1950s-style store, at 6364 Hollywood Blvd., offers a selection of never-been-worn vintage shoes designed by Florida footwear king Joseph La Rose. Celebrities like Joan Crawford and Mamie Van Doren wore his designs. Jayne Mansfield was sporting a pair of his boots when she died in a car crash.

In back of the store is a long bar where customers can sip their favorite cocktails while getting a shoe shine.

Star Shoes was started by Paul Devitt, who likes his bars to mix their drinks with some other kind of activity.

“I thought this would be another kind of diversion,” Devitt said.

It was nearly two years ago that he opened the nearby Beauty Bar on Cahuenga Boulevard (where you can get a martini with your manicure) after opening similar bar/stores in New York and San Francisco.

While the Beauty Bar has been very successful among the 21-to-30-year-old crowd. Star Shoes is aimed at the 27-to-40-year-old set.

“Star Shoes will be a great addition to that block where an improv club is going in, a nightclub called The Ivar and a new restaurant,” said Kerry Morrison, executive director of the Hollywood Entertainment District, a business improvement district.
