reported its net income rose to $1.6 million (12 cents per diluted share) in the fourth quarter ended March 31, up $722,000 (5 cents) compared to the same period a year ago. Sales were up 13.3 percent to $89.7 million. The La Canada Flintridge-based company operates 41 locations in California, Nevada and Arizona.

Maguire Properties Inc.

, which has been promising Wall Street it intends to beef up its management team, announced it hired Paul S. Rutter as executive vice president, major operations and Martin Griffiths as executive vice president, operations both new positions for the Los Angeles company. Rutter, 53, was with the Los Angeles real estate law firm of Gilchrist & Rutter Professional Corp., and Griffiths, 42, was with Deloitte Tax LLP, where he ran the real estate tax group. The duo assumes their duties July 1.

California Pizza Kitchen Inc.

is opening a second LA Food Show restaurant in Beverly Hills, just off east of the Rodeo Drive shopping district and adjacent to a Montage hotel under construction. The restaurant will span 6,000 square feet with an open kitchen and moves the Los Angeles restaurant company further into traditional American bar and grill dining. The first LA Food Show restaurant is in Manhattan Beach.

Livhome Inc.

, an operator of at-home assisted living services in California, Minnesota and Illinois, announced it has acquired certain assets of SeniorCare Network Inc., a provider of similar services in the San Jose area. Terms of the acquisition were not released by Livhome, which was established in 1999 and has been making a series of acquisitions to expand it geographic reach beyond Los Angeles over the past several years.
