GLENDALE

Volume Turned Up: Administaff Inc., a Kingwood, Texas-based company that provides human resources services to small and medium-sized businesses, has named its Glendale office as its 2008 Top Volume District. Out of 51 Administaff offices nationwide, the Glendale office sold new accounts representing the largest number of work site employees in 2008.

CHATSWORTH

China Power: Capstone Turbine Corp., a Chatsworth manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, has reached a deal to provide three microturbine systems for China Southern Power Grid Co. Ltd., one of two state-owned power grid companies in China. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

SBA Assisted: Earth Island, the manufacturing arm of Follow Your Heart vegetarian foods, is expanding its presence in Chatsworth with the purchase of a building for shipping and receiving food products. Earth Island is buying the property with an $885,000 loan backed by a Small Business Administration guaranty. The loan was done under the new American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, which saved Earth Island $21,937 in loan processing fees.

NORTH HILLS

?eroes?Only: A Community of Friends and New Directions Inc., non-profit organizations developing the Homes for Heroes apartments project at the Sepulveda Veterans Administration campus in North Hills, have received permission from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development allowing them to rent exclusively to U.S. military veterans. Two buildings at the campus will be converted into 147 apartments for homeless and disabled veterans.

Name Change: Granada America, the U.S. production entity of ITV Studios PLC in London, has been renamed ITV Studios Inc. The U.S. company is behind reality TV programs including Fox? ?ell? Kitchen?and NBC? ?? a Celebrity ?Get Me Out of Here!?

Industrial Deal: Forming Specialties Inc. has purchased a Compton industrial building for $3.4 million from Edison LLC. The 40,041-square-foot property is at 1309 W. Walnut Parkway.

HAWTHORNE

X-Ray Specs: OSI Systems Inc., a Hawthorne manufacturer of electronics products for the security and health care industries, has received a $3 million follow-on order for its Rapiscan X-Ray scanning systems from the federal Transportation Security Administration. The product is used by security officials to scan carry-on luggage at airports.

ARTESIA

Mixed-Use Property: Egari Revocable Family Trust has purchased an Artesia retail and office building for $3.75 million from AG/BPG Gridley Inc. The 30,678-square foot Gridley Plaza building, at 18300 Gridley Road, is on a 1.74-acre parcel.

Retail Outpost: People? Liberation Inc., an apparel maker based near USC, has opened a J. Lindeberg clothing shop in the Beverly Center shopping mall. The L.A. location will join the company? New York store as the only J. Lindberg stores in the United States.

Strategic Alliance: Lippin Group, an L.A.-based PR and marketing firm, has formed a partnership with Beverly Hills-based jLine Group, a Beverly Hills event development and entertainment marketing firm. The agreement will expand Lippin? Brand2Hollywood unit in event development and product placement, among other areas.

Little Fish: Petrossian Inc., a New York-based restaurant and caf?operator, and dealer in caviar and other food products, has reopened its West Hollywood caf?after a facelift. Remodeling of the eatery, at 321 N. Robertson Blvd., was overseen by L.A. designer David Davis.

Open Kitchen: California Pizza Kitchen Inc., the L.A.-based pizza restaurant chain, has opened a location at the Bridgeport Marketplace retail mall in Valencia. The new store is at 24061 Newhall Ranch Road.
