Baby Steps: Munchkin Inc., a North Hills maker of infant and toddler products, has sold common stock to the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, making the Canadian pension plan a minority owner. Munchkin will use the funds raised from the sale on acquisition and distribution strategies. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

SHERMAN OAKS

Hall of Fame: Sherman Oaks-based Valley Industry & Commerce Association, a non-profit business advocacy group, has named its 2010 inductees to the San Fernando Valley Business Hall of Fame. The inductees were selected for their contributions to the region’s business and community. This year’s honorees are the Buckley School, a Sherman Oaks college preparatory day school; Harry Chandler, former publisher of the Los Angeles Times; Porto’s, a Burbank-based bakery specializing in cakes and Cuban cuisine; Burbank-based entertainment giant Walt Disney Co.; and Anheuser-Busch Cos. St. Louis beer maker Anheuser-Busch has a brewery in Van Nuys.

Checked In: On Assignment Inc., a Calabasas-based health care staffing business, has acquired rival Cambridge Group Ltd. for $5.5 million. Cambridge Group is based in Cambridge, Mass., and had about $11 million in 2009 revenues.

Business Excellence: The Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce has announced the honorees for its Business Excellence & Installation Gala. Richard N. Frank, chairman of Lawry’s Restaurants Inc., was named lifetime achievement honoree. The Beverly Hills Bar Association and retail center Two Rodeo were honored for community contribution. Chris McMillan the Salon was saluted for innovative practices. Montage Beverly Hills and Drago restaurants were honored for customer service.

Tuned In: Pitch Inc., a Culver City marketing services firm, has been named promotions agency of record for NBC Entertainment. Pitch will handle promotions for NBC’s fall launch of programming.

SANTA MONICA

Stock Split: Conspiracy Entertainment Holdings Inc., a Santa Monica-based video game publisher, has announced a one-for-three stock split. The move will reduce the company’s common shares from 75 million to 25 million.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

PC Connections: Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP, a downtown L.A.-based law firm, has donated 300 computers to CDTech, a downtown L.A. non-profit organization that promotes computer education in greater Los Angeles. Youths in CDTech’s Tech Corps program will refurbish the PCs, which will then be donated to area families and businesses.

Taken Into Accounting: PricewaterhouseCoopers, a New York-based accounting services firm, will award $150,000 to USC’s Leventhal School of Accounting master’s program to be used in recruitment of minority students under-represented in the accounting industry. Leventhal School will use the grant money to recruit students from historically black colleges and minority students from other educational institutions.

Southern Exposure: Reed’s Inc., a downtown L.A. natural soda bottler, has reached a deal with Harris Teeter Food Markets to carry its beverages. Harris Teeter has stores in North and South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Maryland and Delaware.

New Chapter: Workbook LLC, a Hollywood marketing services firm that operates Workbook.com and publishes directories for the commercial photography and illustration industries, has been acquired by equity investor William Daniels III. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Taking Off: Ducommon Inc., a Carson-based maker of aircraft parts, has inked a contract to provide parts for Latecore Group’s Airbus A350 plane. The initial contract will run through 2016. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Latecore is based in Toulouse, France.

Mall Addition: Macy’s Inc., a Cincinnati-based department store chain, will open a new store in the Antelope Valley Mall. The 110,000-square-foot store will take the place of a Gottschalk’s.

Blasting Off: New Century Cos. Inc., a Santa Fe Springs defense and aerospace contractor, has changed its name to U.S. Aerospace Inc. The name change is to reflect its increased focus on the aerospace sector.

Game On: Burbank-based Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has acquired Turbine Inc., a Westwood, Mass., video game publisher. Turbine’s biggest titles are online games based on “The Lord of the Rings” and “Dungeons & Dragons” franchises. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
