Sometimes a little perspective can be a wonderful thing. I got a healthy dose of that last week in Indianapolis, at a meeting of the Association of Area Business Publications a fancy title for what is a group of the nation’s business journals.

First and foremost, we came back with a batch of awards from the conference (details on page 6), which provides further evidence of how far the Business Journal has come in the last couple of years.

But beyond our own performance, I saw how L.A. fits into the grand scheme of things. “Grand” is the operative word. Our economy dwarfs just about any other in the country, and with it come many challenges facing the region: education, health care, business development.

One of the AABP speakers described L.A. as a “juggernaut,” and he’s right. But week in and week out, it’s one of the world’s most fascinating juggernauts, and as my plane made its approach into LAX, I was reminded how much fun it is to see it all play out.
