More than Monitors
It is a real shame that your story on our company, Media Page, focused on our work monitoring scanner radios for the news media (“Media Page Tips Reporters on Breaking L.A. Stories,” Sept. 15). That’s our least important function.
Media Page established a toll-free hotline between all of the public service agencies in Southern California and the news media so that the agencies could get accurate, non-editorialized information to the media in less than 30 seconds. Many agencies enter their information directly into the system via computers or AlphaMate Paging Terminals. This is not done anywhere else in the world. Media Page also speaks to classes for public information officers and stresses the importance of good media relations and the need for agencies to get information on breaking incidents to the media.
We are far from being “scanner monitors,” as your story implies.
