Grammys Return to L.A.

After two years in New York, the Grammy Awards will return to Los Angeles next year, the Recording Academy announced last week.

Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan said the return of the awards ceremony to the Shrine Auditorium on Feb. 24, 1999 will pump $26 million into the city’s economy. During a press conference last week, he also rubbed a little sand in the face of his rival, New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

“A certain mayor named Rudy said New York can kick any other city’s butt,” Riordan said. “But I’m here to tell you, you have to be behind somebody to kick somebody’s butt.”Digest/add/turner
