Shaker Gifts:

The UCLA Hammer Museum brings together a collection of rare Shaker art in its newest exhibition, “Heavenly Visions: Shaker Drawings and Gifts.” Shaker gift drawings and songs, which portray images of heaven inspired by visionary experiences, are intended to show the rewards of those who stay true to Shaker precepts. Only about 200 gift drawings are known to exist, and most come from between 1837 to 1850, the era that the Shaker membership and divine inspiration among Shakers was strongest. Fantasy and Horror:

The creeps come out during the 2nd annual “Festival of Fantasy, Horror and Science Fiction” at the Egyptian Theatre, August 3 through August 26. The 13-day film festival includes 28 features, nine shorts and rare trailers from international filmmakers. Among the highlights are Japanese monster flicks “Mothra” and “Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster” and the director’s cut of “Lifeforce,” a 1985 horror flick about a sex-starved space vampire who terrorizes the world while looking for something to wear. Bob Dylan Live:

Sort of. “Don’t Look Back,” the award-winning documentary about Dylan and his 1965 tour of Britain, screens at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre on August 3. The seminal film by D.A. Pennebaker, who shot the film himself with a camera and microphone mounted on his back, has influenced generations of documentary filmmakers. Pennebaker appears and accepts an award from the International Documentary Association. Eddie Baytos and the Nervis Brothers have a go at interpreting Dylan songs before the screening. MAK Music:

“Sound at the Schindler House,” an ongoing experimental music series at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture at the Schindler House, features artist Stephen Prina’s premier of “Sonic Dan” on August 24 and 25. Prina’s work combines an unusual mix of Anton Webern’s string quartets and songs by bands Steely Dan and Sonic Youth. Information: (323) 651-1510.
