Focus on International Trade: Port of Los Angeles Announces Fall and Winter 2019/20 LA Waterfront Event Schedule

Though the lazy days of summer are over and kids are back in school, there are still plenty of fun events to enjoy on the LA Waterfront as the fall and winter seasons approach. So gear up and get excited to experience this year’s line-up of great events and activities, just announced by the Port of Los Angeles.

In honor of Veterans Day, Battleship IOWA will host its annual Veterans Appreciation Event on Monday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The event will feature free food and live music, with admission to the museum free-of-charge for active, retired, and reserve military. Volunteers will be assembling military care packages on site, and accepting package content donations from the public throughout the day.

Kick off the holiday season in December with one of the many free festive events planned on the LA Waterfront. These include the annual holiday parades, with the San Pedro Holiday Parade on Sunday, Dec. 1 from 1-3 p.m., hosted by the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce. On Sunday, Dec. 8, at noon, the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce will host the Wilmington Holiday Parade at a new location at Wilmington Waterfront Park.

For a truly winter experience, grab the kids, mittens, and scarves and head to the Port’s annual Wilmington Winter Wonderland on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The event will feature plenty of snow, games, holiday crafts, face painting and more. Another hometown favorite will be the 56th Annual Los Angeles Harbor Holiday Afloat Parade, which will make its way through the Main Channel at the Port of Los Angeles on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m.

Kicking off the New Year, the Port’s Lunar New Year Festival celebrates the “Year of the Rat” on Saturday, Jan. 25. The annual free event will feature a host of cultural attractions, dance and musical performances, as well as culinary delights traditionally enjoyed during this annual Asian holiday. The festival kicks off at 3 p.m. and concludes at 7 p.m. with a fireworks display, weather permitting.

Want to stay up-to-date with all that’s happening on the LA Waterfront? The Port of Los Angeles debuted a newly designed, mobile responsive LA Waterfront website this past summer. The new searchable, user-friendly website includes information and regular updates on all LA Waterfront projects and events throughout the year.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Port of Los Angeles, with miles of public promenade and walking paths, acres of open space and scenic views, the LA Waterfront blankets more than 400 acres of prime waterfront property and boasts historic Los Angeles Harbor landmarks, such as the welcoming Vincent Thomas Bridge and Angels Gate Lighthouse. The busiest container port in North America, the Port of Los Angeles funds and maintains the LA Waterfront, and remains committed to enhancing public access to the waterfront by connecting visitors and local harbor communities with recreational and commercial attractions that expand and diversify the Port’s position as a premier source of economic vitality for the region.

The Port of Los Angeles is America’s premier port and has a strong commitment to developing innovative, strategic and sustainable operations that benefit Southern California’s economy and quality of life. North America’s leading seaport by container volume and cargo value, the Port of Los Angeles facilitated $297 billion in trade during 2018.
