The Los Angeles office of Grant Thornton LLP has named Justin Hendrickson assistant leader of its Southern California business advisory services practice. Hendrickson was previously business advisory services principal.

Joan E. Manning has joined as partner the Los Angeles office of Singer Lewak Greenbaum & Goldstein LLP, a Southern California-based accounting firm. Manning was previously president and chief executive at JEM Financial Group Inc., a Santa Monica-based accounting firm.

The Sherman Oaks office of Grobstein Horwath & Co. LLP has named Steven C. Salch partner and senior director of taxation. Salch was previously a partner at Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, an international law firm.

Banking & Finance

UnionBanCal Corp., a San Francisco-based bank holding company, has promoted John C. Erickson to vice chairman and chief risk officer at its Los Angeles office. Erickson was previously senior executive vice president and deputy chief risk officer.

Joanne Kim has been named permanent president and chief executive of Wilshire Bancorp Inc., the holding company for Wilshire State Bank. Kim previously served as interim president and chief executive with the bank.


Construction

TriCal Construction Inc. in Marina del Rey has named Daniel T. Gryczman executive vice president of land use and planning. Gryczman was previously an attorney in the Los Angeles office of Manatt Phelps & Phillips LLP, a national law firm.

Education

Karen Sisson has been appointed vice president and treasurer of Pomona College. Sisson was previously chief administrative officer of the city of Los Angeles.

Government

The Los Angeles World Airports has appointed Michael Molina senior director of government affairs. Previously, Molina was chief of staff for Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn.

Health Care

Three-Sixty Advisory Group LLC, a company that serves health care and medical technology companies, has appointed D. Tad Lowrey to its board. Lowrey is executive vice president of Wedbush Inc., a financial services and investment firm in Los Angeles.

Hospitality

Kevin Meehan has been hired as executive chef of Paperfish, a new Beverly Hills restaurant. Meehan was previously chef de cuisine at Patina.

Law

William J. Birney has joined Kennerly Lamishaw & Rossi LLP as partner at the real estate law firm. Previously, Birney was senior vice president and general counsel of Bentley Forbes, a real estate investment company.

Bate Peterson Deacon Zinn & Young LLP, a Los Angeles-based employment and labor law firm, has hired Nima Shivayi as associate. Shivayi was previously an associate at national law firm Fox Rothschild LLP's Los Angeles office.

Ken Suddleson has been named chair of the entertainment and media industry team in the Los Angeles office of Foley & Lardner LLP. Suddleson was previously of counsel at the firm.

Non-Profit

The Promises Foundation, a non-profit organization that assists low-income women and children, has named Kimm Baersch director of development. Baersch was previously director of development at Step Up on Second, a psychological rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica.

Keri Bailey has been named director of state government affairs of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues, a non-profit financial institution. Bailey was previously state legislative and regulatory lobbyist with the organization.

Pamela Bakewell-Griggs has been appointed chief neighborhood officer of the Los Angeles Urban League, a non-profit community organization helping African-Americans, and other minority youths and adults through job training. Bakewell-Griggs was previously executive vice president and operations officer at Bakewell Co., a real estate construction, development and property management company.

Center for Nonprofit Management, an organization that serves non-profit organizations, has hired Steve Damiano as director of education. Damiano was previously director of training for the Support Center for Nonprofit Management in New York.

Technology

Dina Lozofsky has joined Solarmer Energy Inc., a company that develops flexible, translucent plastic solar cells, as vice
president of intellectual property development and strategic alliances. Lozofsky was previously director of technology commercialization at the California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA.

DONATIONS

UPS employees have donated $1.5 million to United Way of Greater Los Angeles, a non-profit organization with the goal of creating pathways out of poverty. The donation will be used for the organization's 10-year action plan, which provides needy families with basic needs such as food, shelter and health care, and improves educational achievement among youths.

KUDOS

Oakwood Worldwide, an international rental housing company headquartered in Los Angeles, has received the Tower of Excellence Award for Most Creative Marketing at the 2008 Corporate Housing Provider Association's annual conference and expo. The company was honored for its marketing program and concept, which built brand awareness and drove occupancy in its U.S. markets.
