The Sherman Oaks office of Grobstein Horwath & Co. LLP has named Steven C. Salch partner and senior director of taxation. Salch was previously a partner at Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, an international law firm.

UnionBanCal Corp., a San Francisco-based bank holding company, has promoted John C. Erickson to vice chairman and chief risk officer at its Los Angeles office. Erickson was previously senior executive vice president and deputy chief risk officer.
Joanne Kim has been named permanent president and chief executive of Wilshire Bancorp Inc., the holding company for Wilshire State Bank. Kim previously served as interim president and chief executive with the bank.

Kevin Meehan has been hired as executive chef of Paperfish, a new Beverly Hills restaurant. Meehan was previously chef de cuisine at Patina.
William J. Birney has joined Kennerly Lamishaw & Rossi LLP as partner at the real estate law firm. Previously, Birney was senior vice president and general counsel of Bentley Forbes, a real estate investment company.

Dina Lozofsky has joined Solarmer Energy Inc., a company that develops flexible, translucent plastic solar cells, as vice
president of intellectual property development and strategic alliances. Lozofsky was previously director of technology commercialization at the California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA.
UPS employees have donated $1.5 million to United Way of Greater Los Angeles, a non-profit organization with the goal of creating pathways out of poverty. The donation will be used for the organization's 10-year action plan, which provides needy families with basic needs such as food, shelter and health care, and improves educational achievement among youths.
Oakwood Worldwide, an international rental housing company headquartered in Los Angeles, has received the Tower of Excellence Award for Most Creative Marketing at the 2008 Corporate Housing Provider Association's annual conference and expo. The company was honored for its marketing program and concept, which built brand awareness and drove occupancy in its U.S. markets.
