Jodi Long has been elected as the local president of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, the actors union currently striking against the Hollywood studios. 

Long, an actress who won a daytime Emmy Award for her role as Mrs. Basil E on the Netflix series “Dash & Lily,” was elected over fellow performer and writer Maya Gilbert-Dunbar with 65% of the votes cast, according to the union. 

Sheryl Lee Ralph was elected first vice president and David Jolliffe was elected second vice president of the Los Angeles local. The voter turnout was nearly 18%. 

Ralph is an Emmy Award-winning actress who is nominated this year for an Emmy for her role as Barbara Howard in “Abbott Elementary,” the show she won the award for last year.

Jolliffe is an actor from Glendale. He garnered attention in the sitcom “Room 222” as Bernie, a student with a red afro. He later went on to become a successful commercial actor and is now a voiceover performer.

Gilbert-Dunbar also ran for the position of national president of the union but lost to Fran Drescher. Drescher won re-election with 23,080 votes; Gilbert-Dunbar garnered 5,276 votes.

“I am honored to serve my union as president for another term,” Drescher said in a statement. 

“Our main objective as a labor union must be to make sure everyone has equal opportunity to work. Together, we will watch partisanship fade away as we develop a new culture of respect, patience and understanding,” she added.

Actress Joely Fischer was re-elected as the national secretary-treasurer of the union. She beat challenger Peter Antico.
