Business Journal Wins AABP Honors

The Los Angeles Business Journal and the San Fernando Valley Business Journal were both recognized by the Alliance of Area Business Publishers, the main professional organization of business journals and other city- and state-based business-news magazines and other publications. The annual contest is judged by professors at the University of Missouri’s school of journalism.

The publications won a total of eight awards.

The Los Angeles Business Journal won a silver award in the Best Newspaper – Large Tabloid category.

“Readers consistently get authoritative and comprehensive coverage of local news. Table of contents and other navigational tools are employed well to help readers. Special sections and lists are packed with useful content. Each issue is thick and printed on glossy paper, enticing readers to keep back issues,” the judges of the competition said.

The San Fernando Valley Business Journal won a Gold award for Best Newspaper – Small Tabloid.

Other awards won included a Gold award for Best Beat Reporting, Tech and Innovation for the San Fernando Valley Business Journal; a Gold award for Best Overall Design – Small Tabloid for the San Fernando Valley Business Journal; and a Silver award for Best Overall Design – Large Tabloid for the Los Angeles Business Journal.

“I’m incredibly proud of all of the work the Business Journal does and grateful that the AABP has recognized this,” Hannah Welk, interim editor of the Business Journal, said. “I have the privilege of working with an amazing team of journalists as well as a production team that makes our product look good week after week. Congratulations to everyone who had a hand in making the publication what it is.”

Nina Bays, the Business Journal’s creative and production director, added, “We are happy to have our work for both publications continually recognized by such a prestigious platform as AABP. The key is – and always will be – exceptional collaboration between our incredibly talented design and editorial teams.”
