Fuhu Tops Inc. 5000

El Segundo tablet maker Fuhu earned the number one slot on the 2014 Inc. 5000, an annual list of the fastest-growing privately held companies released by Inc. Magazine.

Fuhu, which was founded in 2008, has grown close to $160, 000 percent in three years, adding 178 jobs. The company earned $196 million in revenue in 2013 compared with $123, 000 in 2010. Fuhu made its mark by creating an Android tablet for kids and an Adobe Air application that allows children to access the Internet with parental controls. On Tuesday, the company released a larger tablet called Big Tab, with 20 and 24 inch screens aimed at family time, collaboration and social interaction – the board game of tablets.

The number two slot on the national list went to another El Segundo company, Quest Nutrition, which makes health-conscious snacks. The company has been making protein bars and is adding protein chips to its repertoire. Quest grew 57,348 percent in three years.
