Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. will move its headquarters from Pasadena to Dallas by the end of 2019 and cut its local staff by more than a third, according to an agenda posted online by the Dallas City Council.
The company will move 111 jobs to Texas with about 25 percent of those positions filled by employees moving from Pasadena to Dallas, according to the council agenda.
Jacobs employs between 250 and 300 people at its Pasadena office, according to Paul Little, chief executive of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, who spoke to the Business Journal earlier this month.
Jacobs confirmed in early June that it would move part of its Pasadena operations to Dallas, but a spokeswoman declined to state whether the company would move its headquarters. She also would not confirm how many employees work in the company’s Pasadena office.
The agenda states Jacobs has been in discussions with Dallas officials regarding a move of its headquarters for the past several months. The company considered locations in several states for its new headquarters where it had an existing regional office, according to the document.
As part of its agreement with the city of Dallas, Jacobs will extend its office lease there until December 2028 and expand its facility from 80,000 square feet to 96,000 square feet. The deal calls for Jacobs to maintain 250 jobs in the Dallas office.
The Dallas City Council is scheduled to vote on June 22 whether or not to offer a $277,500 economic development grant to Jacobs intended to “encourage the relocation of the company headquarters and stimulate business development activity in Dallas.”
Jacobs could not immediately be reached for comment. The firm employs 60,000 people in 230 offices worldwide and provides a broad range of technical, professional, and construction services to companies in the oil, gas, and aerospace industries, among others. The firm generated $12 billion in revenue last year.
