Clorox Backs Homeless Effort
Laundry Truck LA: Rendering of trailer to house five washers

Apparel manufacturer Dolan Group Inc. has landed a $30,000 donation from Clorox Co. for Laundry Truck LA, a nonprofit organization launched last year by owner Jodie Dolan to serve the homeless.

The Lincoln Heights-based company produces apparel under the Dolan brand, which sells to retailers, such as Anthropologie, Nordstrom and independent boutiques.

The Clorox Co., based in Oakland, will be affiliated with the effort for a minimum of six months, according to Dolan, who said the funds will be used for operating the truck – a trailer containing five washers and five dryers − which is currently under construction.

Dolan launched Laundry Truck LA after volunteering with downtown homeless advocacy groups and learning about Shower of Hope, a mobile shower trailer for the homeless.

Dolan launched her nonprofit in September 2017 with help from her attorney, Jeffrey Kapor, of Buchalter’s Los Angeles office, and Cohn Handler Sturm, her company’s accounting firm. The goal was to raise $150,000, including $75,000 to build the trailer and $75,000 to operate it for the first year. The nonprofit had raised $60,000 before striking the deal with Clorox and is in fundraising discussions with other companies, with hopes of starting operations in early November.

Laundry Truck LA will borrow a truck from fellow nonprofit Shower of Hope to pull the trailer and is working with the organization to coordinate Laundry Truck LA’s schedule.

The Dolan Group also is raising funds through Dolan Handmade, a series of crafting workshops held at the company’s headquarters. The company also teamed with Anthropologie over the summer for a crafting pop-up in Newport Beach to raise funds.

The Dolan Group also sets aside a portion of sales of Dolan merchandise on its e-commerce shop at and part of its wholesale revenue for the nonprofit.
